HERMAN BROUGHER Herman Brougher, whose serious illness was reported in the Herald last week passed away, Friday evening August 8th. He had been in ill health for sometime suffering from heart trouble and complications. A week ago he was taken to the hospital for treatment but his condition was so serious that medical aid and skillful care could not combat against it. Mr. Brougher was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, April 25, 1817. At the age of 17 years he enlisted in the Union Army. February 25, 1864 and served in Company H, in charge of Lieut. Washington Morris in the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry regiment, and was discharged June 11, 1865. He was a loyal and ambitious lad, following his two brothers into the Union Army. He took part in the Gettysburg engagement. He was married to Deliah Lanning of Sabetha, Kansas, February 28, 1874. To this union were born four children, all of whom survive him. They are Ella, Mrs. Will Kuhlman of Clay Center, Kansas; Carrie, Mrs. Fred Smith and John, both of Sabetha; and Clayton of Morrill. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive him. One sister, Mrs. Weimer of Wenatchee, Washington survives. Mrs. Weimer was here recently on a visit. Mrs. Deliah Brougher passed away December 26th, 1921 at their home in Sabetha. For may years the farm where Bert Butterfield now lives was the family home, later they moved to the place where John Brougher now lives and then moved to Sabetha. Herman Brougher united with the Lutheran church in his youth. When he lived on the farm north of Sycamore Springs he united with the Pleasant valley United brethren church. When he moved to Sabetha he became a member of the Sabetha M. E. church during the pastorate of Rev. J. B. Vernon. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Methodist church conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.E. Beauchamp. Interment was in the Sabetha Cemetery.
