He was stricken a year of so ago with a malady which, as time went on, tightened its grip on him, apparently growing progressively ever more serious despite all that medical science could accomplish and which the loving care of his devoted wife and son could not alleviate. He was among the earlier immigrants to come to the Groton territory, arriving first in 1887 to be employed in the community. Later he decided to make his home here and settled on a farm in 1892, making farming his business until failing health forced him to retire. He was a native of Lewiston, Columbia County, Wisconsin, born there July 8th, 1867 and growing to manhood in that region. He was married to Miss Louise MacLeod at Marshalltown, Iowa, December 25, 1913, and a son Dwight, was born to the union. Mr. Zeller is survived by his wife, Mrs. Louise Zeller, now residing in Boston, Mass., and the son, Lt. Dwight Zeller of Camp Swift, Texas. Other survivors include five brothers, the Rev. Wm. L. Zeller of Portage, Wis.; Matt of Spring Valley, Minn.; John of Groton; Samuel of Hecla, and Ben of Carrington, N. D. Three sisters also survive: Mrs. M. Weyh, Portage, Wis.; Mrs. Leona Schmidt and Mrs. Elizabeth Siewart, both of Barlow, N. D. The son, Lt. Dwight Zeller and all the surviving brothers and two sisters were able to be here to attend the funeral services which were held at the Paetznick funeral home here Wednesday afternoon, with the Rev. L. C. Benson officiating. Interment was in the Groton union cemetery. The sympathy of a wide circle of friends goes to the family, whose bereavement is doubly bitter. The deceased will be remembered as a genial and kindly man and a good neighbor, husband and father.
