Micka was in a low state of health, his sudden death which occurred at 12:10 Sunday morning at the family home in the 4th ward, was totally unexpected. He sank into a comatose state from which he did not recover. Herman H. Micka was born at Platteville, Wis., Jan. 28, 1854. He was reared there and it was in that city that he joined his hand and fortune with Miss Mary Pross, Nov. 15, 1877. They resided there for some years until coming to Carroll 21 years ago. He was employed in the clothing store of Nichols & Co. for a number of years and was a popular salesman. Later he became a candidate for county treasurer, contesting for the nomination with Peter Berger and Ubbe Albertson the time the latter was nominated. Prior to the time his general health began to fail departed followed different lines of work, but for a number of years was an invalid, finally lost his eyesight and for a year past scarcely left the house. He received the most loving care and attention from his devoted loving wife and children, but no remedy could ward off the fatal result of the disease. There survive with the bereaved widow aforesaid the following children: Louis Micka, who resides at Conde, S.D., Ollie, aged 21, Samuel, 19, Edward, 16, Anna and Mary, (twin sisters) 13, and Joseph, aged 10. There also survive him his brothers as follows: Sylvester and Henry Micka, Boone, Iowa; Frank and August Micka, Plattville, Wis.; Joseph of Minersville, Pa., and George of Sioux City, Iowa. There also survive three sisters, Mrs. Roselip, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Salzman, Waterloo, Iowa, and Mrs. E. Schlater, Plattville, Wis. The funeral took place from St. Joseph's church at ten o'clock Tuesday forenoon, attended by a large number of parishioners and other friends of deceased and his estimable family. Departed had not an enemy. He was kind hearted and genial and while in his health and strength was gifted with exceptional talents that bespoke a bright intellect. His power of imitation, keen wit and repartee entertained many gatherings and his declining health occasioned general regret. Decedent's brothers, Henry and Sylvester Micka of Boone, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Micka of Sioux City, and Mr. J. E. Pross, brother of Mrs. Micka, Plattville, Wis., were relatives from a distance who attended the funeral. Louis Micka, the oldest son, who is Auditor for Euel and Cronk, railroad constructors, could not be reached with a message and was not present at the funeral.
