Jan 2, 1929 - Carroll Times - The members of the Micka family have been saddened during the hoilday season by the death of their mother, Mrs. Herman Micka, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Hannasch, of Remsen, Saturday evening, December 29, following an illness of the flu which developed into pneumonia. Mrs. Micka left for Remsen four weeks ago, where she intended to spend the winter months with her daughter, son-in-law and granchildren. Sho was anticipating a delightful winter among the grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. When she became ill with the flu, there was much anxiety felt for her as she had not been in the best health since an attack of pneumonia five years ago. Mrs. Micka, as Miss Mary Pross, was born at Platteville, Wis., January 26, 1867. She grew to young womanhood in the place of her birth and was married there in December 1877, to Herman Micka. They came to Carroll 41 years ago, where Mr. Micka and brother, George Micka entered into the general merchandise business. Of the eight children born to them six survive. Bert died an an infant and Mae, Mrs. James McShane, died in April 1928. The remaining children are Louis J Micka, Hibbing, Minn.; Mrs. William Schrum, Michigan City, Ind.; Sam R Micka, LaSalle, Illinois; Ed. J. Micka Hibbing, Minn.; Mrs. George Hannasch, Remsen, Ia., and Joe Micka Carroll, Ia. Mr. Micka died in this city September 26, 1906. Besides the above mentioned children Mrs. Micka was survived by two brothers, Joseph and Louis Pross, of Platteville, Wis. Mrs. Micka was a gentle woman who was dearly beloved by her children. She lived for them and they showered her with every kindness and attention. She was a devout member of the St. Joseph church and was also affiliated with the Catholic Daughters of America, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sacred Heart sodality of her church. Mrs. Micka was a fine type of womanhood and was gentle in all her ways. She was refined and was by nature quiet and unassuming. Her body arrived in Carroll Monday afternoon from Remsen and was taken to the home of her son, Joe Micka. Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph church this morning, January 2, 1929, at 9 o'clock.
