Herman married Mary Johanna Grellner (1886-1968) in 1912 at Rich Fountain, MO. Herman and Mary were married at Sacred Heart Church in Rich Fountain on Nov 26, 1912. They moved to Freeburg into a new house that had been built earlier that year. The home place is located at the junction of Hwy. 63 and State Route P. All seven of the children were born there. All attended what was known as Freeburg Public School although the teachers were from a religious order of nuns. Mr. Johannesmeyer was a cattle tradert and also a buyer of farmer' livestock. He used the Rock Island Railroad to ship the livestock to the St. Louis market. He would ride the caboose to St. Louis to negotiate a fair price for the livestock. As a teenager Felix, his first born son, was given the responsibility to go to St. Louis and later number two son, Cletus, had to make the trip. He usually shipped one to two car loads out every other week and in between trips would ride his horse (later years a car) to visit area farmers who may have stock to sell. This continued on untill the early 1930's when the use of independent trucking became available and farmers could send their livestock directly to the market. Mr. Johannesmeyer was a director and officer of the Bank of Freeburg for a number of years. Mrs. Johannesmeyer was a homemaker and in later years assisted as a midwife to Dr. Buechler. Submitted by Raymond Shaefer 1920 Census within Washington Twp., enumerated on Jan 6 & 7, 1920 lists Herman (Head), 41 years, married, Stock Dealer, Mary (Wife), 34 years, Felix (Son), 6 years, Cletus (Son), 3 11/12 years, Hildegard (Daughter), 4/12 year.
