Description	:	Funeral Services for HERMAN VOLSTEADT, 90, of Bonesteel were held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church in Bonesteel, SD with Pastor Allen Bouslaugh officiating and Pastor Russ Grim assisting. A visitation and prayer service was Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the church. Music was provided by Bud and Darlene Jons, vocalists, and Darlene Jons, pianist. Registration and flower attendants were granddaughters, Rachel Volsteadt, Erin Haan, Megan Volsteadt, and Jenny Haan. Casket Bearers were Alan Davis, John Davis, Joe Laber, Harry Odenbach, Ronnie Bentson, and Rhody Bentson. Military honors were conferred by the Bonesteel American Legion. Interment was... Interment was in the Rosebud Cemetery in Bonesteel, SD. * * * * * * * * * Herman Volsteadt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Bonesteel, South Dakota passed away at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Healthcare peacefully Monday, March 21, 2011 at the age of 90 years. Herman was born January 12, 1921 in Bonesteel, South Dakota to F. Herman Volsteadt and Amelia (Odenbach) Volsteadt. He attended elementary and high school in Bonesteel and then spent several years in the Conservation Corp (CCs) in Montana. Upon returning to South Dakota he entered the US Army and served in the 48th Combat Engineers (1108 Engineer Combat Group) during WWII. His tours of duty lead him through the North African and European theaters. After being honorably discharged in 1945 from the Army, he returned to Bonesteel. Herman lived in Bonesteel and worked on the building of Fort Randall Dam in Pickstown, South Dakota. After completion of the dam he owned a feed store and produce for a number of years. Herman met Laree Davis of rural Naper, Nebraska at church. They eloped on July 3, 1953 and were united in marriage in Pierre, South Dakota. They made their home in Bonesteel. To this marriage two children were born: Kim L. Volsteadt and Mary L. Volsteadt Haan. Herman drove the school bus for Bonesteel Public School for a number of years and completed his work years as the rural mail carrier for the area. Since Herman loved to drive, this was a natural fit for him as he drove over 100 miles daily to deliver the mail. Herman enjoyed his grandchildren and tried to get to as many events as he and Laree could. He could also be found each Sunday afternoon watching Nascar races or working in his garden. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Gregory and attended faithfully until failing health prevented. His love for the Lord was very important and he always found time to share his Lord with friends and family. Herman was a member of the Bonesteel VFW. In 2009 due to failing health he and Laree moved to Waterford Assisted Living in Sioux Falls, SD. Herman is survived by his wife, Laree Volsteadt, of Sioux Falls, his son, Kim and wife, Therese, of Dededo, Guam, his daughter, Mary, and husband, Ronald Haan, of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Jeremy Volsteadt of Spokane, Washington, Rachel and Megan Volsteadt of Dededo, Guam, Erin Haan of Vermillion, SD, and Jenny and Anthony Haan of Sioux Falls, SD. Additionally, he is survived by a sister, Lavina "Tootie" Socolofsky, of Fort Collins, CO and one brother, Robert (Patricia) Volsteadt of Tucson, AZ., as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Herman was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Amelia Volsteadt, five sisters, Barbara Bentz, Elsie Haase, Lila Spear, Viola Johnson and Alma VanDerWerff. -------------------------
