Description	:	Mrs. Hester Matkins was born in Boone Co, Indiana, February 28, 1838 and was called to her reward above June 30, 1908 at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 2 days. Her maiden name was Cluster and on April 8, 1855 she was united in marriage to Daniel Stiles. Four children gladdened this union: Alonzo S, William W, Samantha A and Maggie L. When the call for volunteers came her husband responded and enlisted in the army in August, and on February 12, 1863, he died. Mr. Hitchcock died January 28, 1890, thus robbing the home of a beloved father and husband. Mrs. Hitchcock united with the M.E. church forty years ago when services were held in the school house, being one of the oldest and most .... members of the church. ....tion of her splendid Christian character. On July 4, 1901 she wedded J R Matkins and she resided at Seymour until his death, which occurred November 20, 1906. Since December 22nd Mrs. Matkins has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Traupel, at the old homestead in High Point. Her final illness lasted only about an hour, her death being caused by heart failure. "Grandma," as everyone affectionately called her, was a noble, generous hearted woman, a loving wife, a devoted mother and a loyal kindly neighbor whose life was filled with gentle womanly deeds of unselfishness and charity, and who cheered and brightened many a sad, discouraged heart by her own sunny, happy disposition. Tender memories linger with her loved ones who are now bereft of her blessed influence, but in the midst of their sorrow comes the comforting assurance that she lived her life as the Master would have her and that she is now free from all pain and suffering in the heavenly home. She will be sadly missed in the home circle of which she formed a happy part and to the bereaved ones is extended the loving sympathy of a very wide circle of friends, neighbors and acquaintance who mourn with them the loss of such a dear mother and such a valued friend. - Garden Grove Express.
