(HILDA) JOHNSON The death of Mrs. Ole B. Johnson at her home in this village last Thursday evening came as a shock to her family and friends, as she had been in apparent good health as usual that day. She and her brother, Arnt Nelson, had listened to the radio and after turning off the machine, Mrs. Johnson laid down for a rest at about 8 o'clock. A short time later, Mr. Nelson came into the room and spoke to her, but received no response. Realizing that something was wrong, he rushed to get Mrs. Andrew Larson, next-door neighbor, and a quick examination a minute or two later proved that Mrs. Johnson was dead, having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Death at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 23 days, likely, had been instantaneous. Mrs. Johnson, nee Hilda Natalie Nelson, was born at Lanesboro, Minn., on June 2, 1874. On January 7, 1892 she was united in marriage to Ole B. Johnson at Kathryn, ND. The same year the young couple went to live on a homestead claim in Greenland Township, north of Marion, and this was the family home until they moved to Litchville three years ago. Deceased was the mother of nine children, one of whom, a son, died in infancy. The children surviving are: Melvin of Tacoma, Wash.; Peter of Missoula, Mont.; Mrs. L. C. Johnson (Anne) of Fargo; Henry of Mott; Mrs. Carl J. Nybeck (Palma) of West Fargo; Carl of Litchville; Palmer of Chicago, Ill. and Hazel at home. Surviving also are 18 grand children, 7 great grandchildren; two brothers: Arnt Nelson and Edwin Nelson of Eastedge, and one sister, Mrs. Halvor Evenson of Jamestown Mr. Johnson died on August 17, 1944. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with services at the First Lutheran Church of Litchville at 2 o'clock with Rev. J. E. Lee officiating. Appropriate and touching musical numbers included vocal solos by Mrs. Bernt Christianson, Litchville and Mrs. Elda Spoerl of Marion. Pallbearers were: Lars Seglum, Elliot Johnson, John Matzke, T. I. Strinden, Torvald Knutson and Chris Olson. The remains were laid to rest in the Bethlehem Cemetery, west of town, at the side of her husband. Published in The Litchville Bulletin, Litchville, ND, January 1945.
