Miss Behrends had not been in robust health. This week before Christmas she fainted while on the street in Monticello, and was taken to the home of her relative, Mrs. W.R. Kuhns. She complained of a continuing headache, but recovered so as to be about again. Nearly a week before her death she went to the home of her sister, for a visit. She felt fairly well until Saturday evening, when there came a recurrence of the trouble she had in December. She had gone to the barn on an errand, and while there fainted. She revived, after being taken to the house, and regained consciousness, and felt restored. She retired at ten o'clock, but at two o'clock in the morning she again became worse, and died after a few hours of suffering, before the attendance of a doctor could be secured. The cause of death was announced as acute dilatation of the stomach. The funeral was held yesterday noon at the German Lutheran church, the services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. S. Ide. Hers was the first death in an interesting family. She is survived by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. Mary attended the parochial school of her church, where she was recognized as a bright scholar. She was confirmed in March, 1915. The six classmates who were confirmed at the same time acted as pallbearers at the funeral. Mary Behrends was born in Lovell Township, September 2, 1998, and was therefore but little more than 17 years old. Her untimely death will always be mourned by the parents and their children, but they have the consolation of knowing that Mary was a good girl and well prepared for the sudden summons.
