Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery. Hilton died April 20, 2013 at Eureka Community Hospital. Hilton Mehlhaff, son of Emil and Katherine (Hieb) Mehlhaff was born August 4, 1921 on the family homestead three miles south of Eureka. He attended Eureka Public School and began operating the family farm just after the eighth grade. Hilton Mehlhaff, son of Emil and Katherine (Hieb) Mehlhaff was born August 4, 1921 on the family homestead three miles south of Eureka. He attended Eureka Public School and began operating the family farm just after the eighth grade. He also continued operating Mehlhaff Threshing Company until 1952, spanning three generations of Mehlhaff's from 1902-1952. He was united in marriage to Velma Job on October 21, 1951 at her parent's home near Leola. They were general farmers raising small grains and all types of livestock and poultry. They retired in 1981 and moved into Eureka. During Hilton's retirement, he was a licensed electrician and worked several years at Dakota Woodworking. Hilton was an avid New York Yankees fan all of his life as well as being a supporter of high school athletics. He was a very dedicated fan of Eureka youth sports. He enjoyed learning and using new technology. A favorite pastime of his was spending time in his woodworking shop. Hilton was a cat lover and he took care of many strays. He was a life member of Eureka Reformed Church. Hilton is survived by his wife, Velma; two daughters, Cheryl (Mickey) Berg and Dorothy (Harlan) Horst, and two sisters, Norma Fauth and Olive (Allen) Weller. His parents and one sister, Nancy Mehlhaff preceded him in death. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
