Description	:	Obituary Hiram Frederic Gilbert, son of Austin B. and Lucy A. Gilbert, was born in Muscatine, Iowa, January 7, 1870. Died at his home in Keosauqua, October 16, 1934. In his boyhood he moved with his parents to Hodgeman county, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. He taught school for several years during which time he was called to the ministry. In 1892 brother Gilbert returned to Iowa, and was appointed as a supply, to the Mount Zion Circuit and was admitted to the Iowa conference in September, 1893. He served the following charges: Mt. Died at his home in Keosauqua, October 16, 1934. In his boyhood he moved with his parents to Hodgeman county, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. He taught school for several years during which time he was called to the ministry. In 1892 brother Gilbert returned to Iowa, and was appointed as a supply, to the Mount Zion Circuit and was admitted to the Iowa conference in September, 1893. He served the following charges: Mt. Zion, Keosauqua Circuit, Batavia, West Burlington, Eddyville, Cedar, Packwood, Cantril, Montezuma, Muscatine District, Agent Permanent Fund, Burlington District Evangelist, Milton, Keota and Cantrill. Dr. Gilbert was united in marriage to Miss Jennie A. Cook, July 8, 1896, in Wichita, Kansas. To this union were born four children, Clyde and Lawrence preceded him to Heaven, Mrs. Gilbert, Esther and Helen are left to mourn their loss. At the age of 19 he was recommended for local Preacher's license by the Quarterly Conference in Jetmore, Kansas, and was granted license by the Dodge City District. Having graduated from the Jetmore Normal school he later worked his way through Iowa Wesleyan college from which he received his degree of B. A. and D. D. Dr. Gilbert was a close student of men and books, a clear honest thinker. He loved children and youth and found his highest joy in winning others to Christ and promoting the Kingdom of Our Risen Lord. A true minister of the Word; a loyal brother to mankind; a loving husband and father, has gone from us. Brother Gilbert is survived by his wife, Jennie A. Gilbert, Keosauqua; two daughters, Mrs. W. F. Arthmann, Keosauqua, Mrs. Max R. Berry, Mystic; three grandsons, one brother E. D. Gilbert, Centerville, Iowa, three sisters, Mrs. F. E. Bell, Mt. Sterling, Ia., Mrs. H. B Rankin, Perry, Ia., and Mrs. H. S. Jamison, Cantril, Ia., with many other relatives and a host of friends. "Servant of God, Well Don." Until we meet in Heaven; Farewell. Funeral services were held Thursday October 18, 1934, at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in Milton. The services were conducted by Dr. E. J. Shook and the Rev. M. E. Hayes.
