Daly was born in Vermont Dec. 4, 1841, died in Bloomfield, Iowa, July 9, 1920, aged 78 years, 7 months and 5 days. As a girl she taught school in the Green Mts. of Vermont, and came to Iowa when she was nineteen years of age. She united in marriage to Austin B. Gilbert April 5, 1865. To them were born six children; two sons and four daughters. Eunice Eliza, the eldest daughter died when three year of age; Dr. Lula Gilbert Bell at the age of thirty-five. The surviving children are Eugene S. of Centerville, Rev. Hiram F. of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Mabel Bell of Mt. Sterling, Ia., and an adopted daughter, Mrs. Sherman Jamison of Keosauqua, Ia. Mrs. Gilbert with her husband moved to Bloomfield 19 years ago last spring. Her husband died last November on the 30th. The companion of her life for more than fifty-four years was gone. It left her lonely for Christ had made their home a heaven. She did not want to give up her home and stayed there as long as she could. During the month of June she was in Mt. Pleasant with her son Hiram, then she came to Bloomfield to spend remaining days with her daughter Mrs. Rankin. On last Thursday the thing for she had prayed came to pass for she longed to be with Christ. After her husband's departure she felt like she had nothing more to live for and she was lonely. Mrs. Gilbert was the daughter of a Methodist preacher. Her brother Rev. E. S. Daly of Cambridge, Neb., is a Methodist preacher and a member of the Iowa Conference. Rev. Daly and wife came last Tuesday expecting to make her a visit for they did not know of her sickness and then expected to go to their daughter's in Virginia. Mrs. Gilbert's son is the Rev. H. F. Gilbert of Mt. Pleasant who is also a member of the Iowa Conference. It was the great joy of her life when one of her sons was called into this sacred work, for that had been her prayer from his infancy. Mrs. Gilbert was a staunch member of the church and regretted very much that she could not attend prayer meeting and the preaching services. She was the first president of the W. H. M. S. in Bloomfield. Thus a beautiful life has been lived and haven alone can reveal the extent of her influence. The children have a rich heritage from such parents. The rest of us are sadly bereft, but stronger in faith as we look to the glad reunion on the other shore. Funeral services were conducted at the M. E. Church Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. by Rev. Fowler the pastor. Special music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Karl Melcher, Frank Kline and Messrs H. C. Brown and A. B. Welch.
