Walters, 61, of Sterling, who died Sunday, April 16, 1989 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Lincoln. Walters was born June 15, 1927 near Burr, the son of Henry and Sena (Buss) Walters. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-47 before returning to the Douglas and Burr areas, where he farmed for 20 years. He and his wife, Evalyne, moved to Sterling in 1968. He worked for Kingery Construction in Lincoln as a crane operator for 22 years before retiring in 1987 due to ill health. He was a member of the Harm Sangen American Legion Post 140 of Sterling; the Deer Creek Sodbusters Club of Sterling; a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sterling; a member of Local 571 Operating Engineers Union, Lincoln; and a former member of the Eagles in Beatrice. Survivors include his wife, Evalyne; sons, Ronald and wife Connie of Sterling and Richard of Lincoln; daughters, Mrs. Alan (Carol) Wusk and Connie Baehr of Sterling; seven grandchildren; brother, Walter of Savannah, Mo.; three sisters, Jennie Buss, Mrs. Irene Clark and Mrs. Charles (Lena) White all of Sterling; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Nancy, who died in 1970; a brother and a sister. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling with the Rev. Stanley W. Floth officiating. A family prayer service preceded the funeral. Burial was in the Sterling Cemetery. Harm Sangen American Legion Post 140 conducted graveside services. A memorial has been established, with Zink Mortuary in charge. Zink Mortuary was in charge of arrangments.
