Mead; late residence - Lead; nearest relative or friend - Mrs. Mullen. Lead Daily Call newspaper, April 14, 1923 - "Death of Homer Mullen. One of the Esteemed Citizens of the City Called. Homer Mullen, one of the old residents of the city and one of the old employes of the Homestake Mining company passed from earth shortly after 2 o'clock this morning, and the news of the death will be received with sorrow and regret by many people in various parts of the Hills, and many in Lead will look upon his death as a personal loss. For a long time he had been suffering from an ailment which had baffled the skill of the best practioners in the city and in the Hills, and a month or so ago it assumed a malignant form, until it caused his death. Homer Mullen was born in Clearfeld County, Pennsylvanis, on the 29th of December, 1855, so at the time of his death was past his 68th year. He came to the Black Hills in 1878, settling in the St. Onge valley, afterward moving to Deadwood, where he resided for a short time and then came to Lead, where he had made his home until the time of his death, esteemed and respected by those who knew him, for he was a man of excellent qualities, honest and upright in all of his dealing with his fellow men. He was married in 1885 to Miss Etta Foglesong, and to that union six children have been born, all of whom have preceded him to the grave. He is survived by his wife, two sisters and two brothers, his sisters being Mrs. M.B. Scott of Canby, Oregon, and Mrs. George Olendorf of Riverside, California. One of his brothers lives in Oregon and the other in Alaska. For thirty years he has been in the employ of the Homestake Mining company, twenty-seven of those as foreman of the company's stables, and proved his efficiency and worth. His funeral will be held from his late home on South Mill street tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Flockhart of Christ church will officiate. Burial will be in the South Lead cemetery. Many friends will extend their sympathy to his sorrowing wife and other relatives." Lead Daily Call, April 16, 1923 - "Funeral services for the late Homer Mullen was held yesterday afternoon from the family residence on Mill street and were largely attended, many coming from Whitewood, Sturgis, Spearfish, St. Onge and surrounding towns to pay the last sad tribute of respect to the memory of the departed. Rev. Flockhart of Christ church conducted the services. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The casket was borne from the home to the grave by employes of the Homestake barns, who for many years had labored under Mr. Mullen."
