NEWSPAPER OBITUARY: The Plainview News, May 5, 1926 Hosea Felt, son of Justus and Betsey Hackett, was born near Wilson, New York, October 13, 1856, and passed peacefully away Sunday afternoon, April 25th, aged 69 years 6 months and 12 days. His parents died when Mr. Hackett was five years old, and for eight years he lived with a sister. In 1876 he came to La Porte City, Iowa, and made his home with a cousin. On March 24, 1879 he was married to Miss Alice Friend, and to them were born seven children, two whom, Grace and Harry, preceded him in death. In the year 1883, he came with his family to Pierce county and settled on a homestead four and one half miles north of Plainview. In 1889 he moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and engaged in the grocery business with his brother, but remained there only until 1891, when he returned to his farm, where he continued to live until six years ago, when he retired from active farming and moved to Plainview. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, three daughters; Mrs. Maud Huffman, Mrs. Lura Fulton, and Edna, all of Plainview; two sons, Ira, of Burwell, Nebraska and Roy, of Plainview. There are also nine grandchildren and as Mr. Hackett was very fond of children, he found great comfort in these grandchildren during his declining days. There is also a sister, Mrs. Justine Kimberley, of Lockport, N.Y., and one brother, Justus, of Wilson, N.Y. The dates above given show that Mr. Hackett was among the old pioneers, who made this part of Nebraska not only habitable, but a veritable garden for the production of food for the world, and also a safe and pleasant land in which to dwell, and rear a family. It is to him, and others of like integrity and industrious habits that we owe a debt of gratitude for the way in which they labored in making this community what it is. God in His wisdom has recalled The boon His love has given, And though the body slumbers here The soul is safe in Heaven." Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, April 29, conducted by the pastor, Rev. G. M.
