Description	:	Howard A. Hodgson, aged 42, well known and popular Eurekan, was fatally injured and Mrs. Hodgson badly hurt at 7:00 p.m. Sunday when the automobile in which they were returning from Wichita crashed into a concrete culvert railing on Highway 54 about one mile east of Rosalia. Mr. Hodgson sustained a fractured skull and both legs were broken. He and Mrs. Hodgson were taken to the Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, where he died about two hours after the accident. Mrs. hodgson also was badly injured. She suffered a fractured pelvis, numerous cuts and bruises. She was unconscious when removed from the automobile. The accident was reported by passing motorists and Mr. and Mrs. Hodgson were taken to the El Dorado Hospital in the Byrd ambulance, where Mrs. Hodgson remains a patient. The cause of the accident is not definitely known. Mrs. Hodgson was at the wheel when the car swerved to the right and struck the concrete abutment on the south side of the road with such force that the front end of the car was badly wrecked. Mr. Hodgson was born southwest of Eureka June 3, 1898. Mr. Hodgson was united in marriage to Miss Blanche Stever on October 16, 1922. He spent his entire life in this community. For the past nineteen years he has been a mail cherk in the Eureka postoffice. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche Stever Hodgson; three sons, Boby Lee, age 14; Jackie Dean, age 8; Jimmie Howard age 1; his father, William F. Hodgson, Eureka; one brother, Wm. Hodgson Jr., of Eureka; seven sisters, Miss Maude F. Hodgson. St. Louis; Mrs. Mervyn Collins, and Mrs. John Lewis, Piedmont; Ms. Fred Dunlap and Mrs. James L. Brown, Eureka; Mrs. Noel Stiffler, Emporia; Mrs. Lloyd Small, Topeka. His mother passed away October 15, 1941. Funeral service, conducted by Rev. R.R. Pfeiffer, was held from the Baird Funeral Home in Eureka this afternoon (Thursday) at 4:00 o'clock. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. From Eureka Heald 26 March 1942 page 1.
