Read More	Salina Journal Sunday, October 2, 1988 Howard Joseph Doyen OTTAWA — Howard Joseph Doyen, 62, Ottawa, died Friday, Sept. 30, 1988, in the emergency room at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa. He was born Sept. 1,1926, at Rice in Cloud County. He attended the University of Kansas before transferring to Ottawa University, where he graduated in 1950. Mr. Doyen had been a member of the board of directors of the First National Bank in Ottawa since 1971 and had been an assistant vice president since Jan. 1, 1987. Previously, he had worked for a year at the Kansas State Employment Office in Ottawa and for several years at People's National Bank in Ottawa. He had been a partner in Alexander-Doyen Real Estate and Insurance Agency in Ottawa for several years, and when the partnership was dissolved, he retained the agency. In 1986, he sold the agency to Porter-Speers-Bundy Insurance Agency in Ottawa and continued to work there for a year. Mr. Doyen was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific Theater. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Ottawa, where he was an elder, a Sunday School teacher and chairman of the church building committee. He was a past commander of Warren Black Post 60 American Legion, a past-exalted ruler of BPO Elks Lodge 803 and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, all in Ottawa. He served for eight years on the Ottawa USD 290 Board of Education and served as regional vice president of the Kansas Association of School Boards. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Kansas. Survivors include his wife, Leola Rosalie Nelson of the home; two daughters, Ginger Cheever of Manhattan and Nancy Watts of Boise, Idaho; a son, Ronald H. of Spokane, Wash.; a sister, Lucille Fox of Sloan, Iowa; and two grandsons. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Ottawa. the Rev. Donald Richardson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. today until noon Monday at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Ottawa, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today. A second visitation will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia and will be followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.
