Manning, son of Allen and Agnes Daughterty (sic) Manning, was born at Crab Orchard, Neb., Sept. 14, 1896 and died June 18, 1971 at the age of 74 years,8 months and 24 days. After his basic education, he attended York Business College. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War I. On June 12, 1920, he was married to Fannie Helen Hoffmeister of Imperial, Neb., and to them one child Hazeldean was born. For the past 47 years, he made his home in Steel City. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church in Steel City and was serving the church as a trustee and secretary of the board. Mr. Manning belonged to the American Legion Post No. 349 of Steel City, Veterans of Foreign Wars Squires Post NO. 3113 of Fairbury, Oregon Trail Barracks NO., 2167 of Veterans of World War 1 and the Knights of Pythias Lindon Lodge No. 146 of Steel City. Surviving are his wife Fannie of Steel city; daughter Mrs. Hazeldean Wynn, and granddaughter, Patricia Ann, Mrs. Edward Ching, both of Kailua, Hawaii. Funeral services were June 21 afternoon in the United Presbyterian church at Steele City with Dr. John E. Filinger officiating. Vernon Cassell sang and Mrs. George Kenning was organist. Military rites at the grave in the Steel City cemetery were by the Steel City American Legion Post."
