Hadsell, son of Merton U. and Elnora Jones Hadsell, was born November 18, 1890, at Rockford, Neb., and died September 30, 1980, at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 12 days. Hadsell, son of Merton U. and Elnora Jones Hadsell, was born November 18, 1890, at Rockford, Neb., and died September 30, 1980, at the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was the older of two children. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Pluma Johnson, and his parents. He attended the Geneva schools and the University of Nebraska. On June 1, 1914, Hugh married Grace Huston and two sons were born to this marriage. Grace Hadsell preceded him in death in 1959. On August 3, 1960, he was united in marriage to Faye Curtiss. They have resided in Geneva since that time. His working life was spent with the Burlington Railroad as a telegrapher and station agent, having learned telegraphy from his mother. His full time service began as a telegrapher and station agent, having learned telegraphy from his mother. His full time service began as a telegrapher in Geneva in 1911. Subsequently he worked in Strang, Wymore, Nebraska City, Table Rock, Guide Rock, Beatrice, and Pawnee City and then returned to Geneva where he retired in 1966, after 55 years of service. During this time he also served in Chicago as the general secretary-treasurer for the Burlington lines for the “Order of Railroad Telegraphers.” He was a member of the Geneva United Methodist church, having been a lifelong member of the Methodist church, active in church life wherever he resided. He was active in the Masonic Lodge for over 76 years having been initiated in 1914. He was a member of Geneva Lodge No. 79 AF&AM, a 50 year member of the York Rite Bodies of Geneva and York and the holder of the “Bronze Jordan Medal” as the oldest member of Lodge No. 79, living in Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, Faye; sons, Neal of Roswell, N.M., and Richard of Mitchell, Neb; two step-sons and a step-daughter, J. Arthur Curtiss and Dr. Charles Curtiss of Lincoln and Mrs. James (Carolyn) Chester of Cypress, Cal.; four grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist church in Geneva, on Friday, October 3, 1980, with Rev. Jay Funk officiating. Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Curt Prater who sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and “How Great Thou Art.” Pallbearers were Robert J. Cellar, Ben D. Fussell, Thomas J. Ortgies, Marlin A. Domeier, Howard W. Hamilton and John K Turek. Graveside services were in the Geneva cemetery with Geneva Lodge No. 79 AF & AM in charge of Masonic rites. Interment was next to his wife, Grace in the Geneva cemetery.
