Mr Dunn died at the home of his daughter, Mrs Fred Russell, of the infirmities of old age. He had been in failing health for almost a year. Mr Dunn was a native of County West Meath, Ireland, where he was born August 15, 1834. He lived in his native land till he was 20, when he went to England, and from there he sailed in company with his mother, sister and two brothers for this country on May 28, 1854. The family landed at New York on June 28 of the same year, and lived at Brooklyn for about 18 months. Believing that there were greater opportunities in the west, the Dunns came to Illinois, settling in Bureau county, where one of the brothers had gone previously. It was not long until the still newer country appealed to them, and the members of the family started for Iowa. Mr Dunn and his two brothers drove overland, and the mother and sister went by rail, entering Iowa City on the first train that ever pulled into that place. From Iowa City the entire family took the prairie schooner to this county, established a home in what has since become known as Dunn settlement on March 4, 1856. On October 28, 1861 at Iowa City, Mr Dunn as his wife Miss Catherine Elizabeth Welsh. She died June 6, 1897. Seven children were born to the couple and six of them are living. They are Mrs Marion Bridgeford of Spokane, Washington, Mrs W J Spratt of Iowa City, Mrs Frank Quinn and Francis Dunn of Nevada, William Dunn living four miles west of this city and Mrs Russell at whose home Mr Dunn died. One brother, James Dunn, lives four miles north of St Anthony, William Dunn who died three years ago was another brother. The old Dunn homestead is five miles northeast of St Anthony and there Mr Dunn lived until about five years ago when he moved to Clemons. He came to St Anthony about a year ago. The funeral was held from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at St Anthony Monday morning at 9:30, Rev L D Tobin officiating. Interment will follow in the Dunn Settlement Cemetery.
