Mr. Kidd suffered a partial stroke of paralysis, some time ago, and his health had gradually failed since then. Up to that time he was able to be about town every day, although feeble in health. Mr. Kidd has a host of friends in Monticello, who will be pained to learn of his demise. At the time of his death Mr. Kidd was in his eightieth year. He was born in the town of County, Londonderry, Ireland, November 1, 1836. He came to the United States at the age of 16, and settled at Hyde Park, Massachusetts, where he worked in a woolen mill. After ten years or more of residence in the East he came to Iowa with his family, and settled on a farm two miles north of Monticello. Nine years later he moved to Monticello which has since been the family home. Mr. Kidd was united in marriage to Mary Jane Overing, October 28, 1861, at Utica, New York. To this marriage was born one daughter, Ida, who died in early womanhood, not long after her marriage to Edward Miller, a son of Mrs. Alfred Miller of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Kidd celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary October 28, 1911, at which time their many friends tendered letters and telegrams of congratulations. The Express published a picture of Mr. And Mrs. Kidd at that time, which was the first picture they had had taken during the entire fifty years of wedded life. A few weeks after marriage they sat for a daguerreotype, but for no other photograph until the taking of one on their golden wedding day. The funeral services will be held at the house either Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and will be in charge of the I.O.O.F. lodge of this city. The funeral of the late Hugh Kidd was held at the family residence, last Sunday afternoon. Rev. J. H. Barr, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, officiated. It was largely attended by the friends of the family. Interment was in Oakwood. In the 1870 census of Monticello, Jones County, Iowa, Hugh is a farmer. His wife is keeping house and his daughter Ida A. is seven years old and attending school. Hugh was born in Ireland.
