IN MEMORIAM Tribute Paid to the Late Mrs. Emma Ida Gelensky Mrs. Emma Ida Gelensky was born on April 3, 1882, in Leipzig, Germany, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Dathe. When she was 9 years old, she came to America with her parents and family who lived several years in Wisconsin, eventually locating on a farm near Fullerton, N.D. She married Barney Gelensky at Fullerton in 1901. He died in 1924. One daughter, Violet, now Mrs. Robert Carlson of Jud, survives. Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Gelensky moved to LaCrosse, Wis., where Mr. Gelensky was employed for several years in the shops of the Allis-Chalmers Tractor Company. Lured by the call of the west, they returned to North Dakota in 1909, locating on a farm between LaMoure and Grand Rapids. Moving to western North Dakota, they lived there about 10 years, and then went to LaMoure city. After her husband's death there in 1924, Mrs. Gelenksy lived with ner relatives, and when her daughter married, made her home with her until her death. Mrs. Gelensky, although slightly crippled, enjoyed fair health until about five years ago when a serious illness necessitated several operations. She rallied to only fair health, and was ever a patient sufferer. Contracting a severe cold several weeks ago, she grew steadily worse, despite care at the Trinity hospital, Jamestown, and passed away on Mary 2 last, aged 48 years, and 1 month. Surviving besides the daughter, Mrs. Carlson of Jud, are two grandchildren, three brothers, Frank of Grand Rapids, Emil of Ellendale, and Herman of Milwaukee, Wis., two sisters, Hulda, Mrs. J. W. Wranovsky of Grand Rapids; and Ida, who is still living in Germany, and a host of friends. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church, holding steadfast to her religious faith to the last and throughout all trials. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday of last week from the Zion Lutheran church of Grand Rapids, with Rev. W. A. Hummel of Jud officiating, and with Rev. T. K. Herbener of Verona in charge of the choir which with deep feeling sang: Rock Of Ages, Lead, Kindly Light, and Nearer, My God to Thee. Last tribute was paid by many friends who attended the services despite bad weather and heavy roads, while profuse flower tributes bedecked the coffin. Wreathes and sprays of flowers were presented by Lutheran Ladies aids of Ellendale and Grand Rapids, the Presbyterian Sunday school and Helping Hand Society of Grand Rapids, as well as floral tokens from relatives and friends. Pallbearers were six nephews of Mrs. Gelensky; Henry, Gerhardt, Harry, Emil and Herbert Dathe and Earl Wranovsky. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Grand Rapids. A friend says in tribute: "Thus another has passed from this earthly life, one who had made friends with everyone with whom she came into contact. She always had a friendly smile, although heavy clods hung over her. She was a faithful wife and mother bearing joy and sorrow alike with patience and endurance and nurturing her own in the fear and favor of the Lord. Her life was more than a mere living of the Golden Rule, it was lived in the fear and love of her God. Her sudden deathe was a great surprise to many. Her friendly ways and her winning smile will be missed by her many friends and most of all by her mourning daughter and relatives. And yet a comfort it is to know her life was not lived in vain."
