The Rev. Gary Hatcher officiated at the services. Mabel Otten, Scotch Grove, died Oct. 25 at the Senior Home in Monticello, following an extended illness. Ida Mabel Mead was born March 5, 1897, at Andrew, the daughter of James and Mary Ann Moncrief Mead. She received her education in Center Junction where her parents operated a hotel. Ida Mabel Mead and John Otten were married Oct. 28, 11914. The couple farmed in the Scotch Grove area, and then moved to Canada for two years and farmed there. They returned to the Scotch Grove area and farmed until John's death in 1975. Mabel continued to make her home on the farm until her health caused her to live with her daughters and later at the senior Home. Mabel was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. She confirmed her faith there on Oct 28, 1916. Mabel is survived by four daughters, Joyce Paulsen of Scotch Grove, Mary Ann Rosencrans of Anamosa, Selena Blohm of Center Junction and Marcella Rickels of Cedar Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a brother, Louis Mead of Summer; two sisters, Alice Geary of Cedar Rapids and Mary Underwood of Brea, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, four daughters, two grandsons, five brothers and three sisters. Casket bearers were Norton Serbousek, Steven Paulsen, Tom Paulsen, John Kuhns, Robert Hines and Brian Darrow. Honorary bearers were Roger Raftis and Lynn Kuhns. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, was in charge of the arrangements. * * * * * * * * * *
