Funeral Services will be held 11:00 Saturday morning, November 26, 2011 at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church with interment in the Scotch Grove Cemetery. Surviving are her 5 children, Susan (Bob) Hines, Monticello, Nancy Paulsen, Iowa City, Steve (Judy) Paulsen and Tom Paulsen both of Scotch Grove, Lisa (Bob) Moore, Anthem, Arizona 11 Grandchildren, 10 great-Grandchildren and 3 sisters –in-law, Kathleen Decker and Evelyn Paulsen both of Monticello, Ruth Mills, Waverly, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her Parents, an infant son, Patrick John, and a son-in-law, Ron Blong, a brother, James Otten, 5 sisters, Marcella Rickels, Mabel Cheairs, Pauline Kuhns, Mary Ann Rosencrans, Selena Blohm. Joyce Otten was born November 16, 1925 at Scotch Grove, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Ida Mabel Mead, Otten. She received her early education in the rural schools near Scotch Grove. Joyce graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1943. She then went on to attend Lenox College in Hopkinton where she also taught typing. She worked at the Lux Hatchery while in Hopkinton. Joyce later worked on the Rationing Board in Jones County during WWII. Joyce Otten married Ralph Paulsen on June 12, 1946 at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church. The couple farmed East of Scotch Grove. In more recent years Joyce had been employed at K Company, Michaels Clothing and Bear Walls. Ralph preceded her in death on February 4, 2010. Joyce was a member of the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school. She was baptized at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church on November 16, 1925 and confirmed her faith there on April 6, 1941.
