Rev. Harvey O. Gilbertson officiated. Mr. Otten died at John McDonald hospital Thursday evening, Jan 9. He had been in failing health the past several months. He was born near Scotch Grove June 28, 1892, son of Frederick H. and Lena J. Johnson Otten. He received his early education in the rural schools of Jones County. Mr. Otten was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Business College and a lifetime member of Wayne Zion church. On Oct. 28, 1914, he married Mabel Mead. Jones County with the exception of three years in which they farmed near Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He is survived by his wife and seven children: James, Scotch Grove; Mrs. Marvin (Selma) Blohm, Center Jct; Mrs. Lincoln (Marcella) Rickels, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Mable Cheairs, Melrose Park, Ill.; Mrs. Myron (Pauline) Kuhns, Scotch Grove; Mrs. Ralph (Joyce) Paulsen, Scotch Grove; and Mrs. William (Mary) Rosencrans, Anamosa. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a brother, Ben, Tipton and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Bohlken, Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Mrs. Minnie Zimmerman, Anamosa. Mr. Otten was preceded in death by a brother, twin daughters and two grandchildren. Casket bearers were Leonard Serbousek, Norton Serbousek, Glenn Goldsmith, Donovan Mead, Louis Hanken and Myron Mead.
