McCorkell, a member of one of the early pioneer families of Akron vicinity, passed away at her home in Akron on Saturday, April 13, 1935, after a few days illness of pleurisy. She had been in poor health for several years. The Akron Register-Tribune contains the following obituary: "Ida May Keech was born July 24, 1868, in Columbia county, Wisconsin, where she spent her girlhood. About the year 1876 she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Keech, to northwest Plymouth county, Iowa, and resided in Akron on what is now the Ralph Brown place, in the west part of town. About the year 1882 the family went back to Wisconsin, but returned here in 1882, when Mr. Keech bought what is now the M. J. Gleason farm, about a mile northeast of town, a part of which was then the present site of Riverside cemetery. When the family moved to Akron the town was called Portlandville. She attended the public school here and later taught school in this vicinity. On June 21, 1890, she was united in marriage with Joseph L. McCorkell, of Akron. To this union four children were born. Mr. and Mrs. McCorkell farmed northeast of town, in Portland township, for many years. They bought a home in Akron several years ago and have since resided here. Mrs. McCorkell was a member of the Baptist church, of Akron, practically all of her life. A woman of fine Christian character, she was devoted to her home, her husband and children, while as a friend and neighbor she was kind, helpful and sympathetic, ever ready to do a good deed. She counted her friends by her acquaintances, and her taking away after so brief an illness was a blow to the family and friends. Surviving are her husband, J. L. McCorkell, of Akron; three sons, Perry McCorkell, of Westfield; Leslie McCorkell, of Stevens, S. D., and Clair McCorkell, of Akron; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Herzig, of Merrill; two brothers, Warren W. Keech, of Shelton, Neb., and Arthur Keech, of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Hattie Thomas of Medical Lake, Wash.; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. The relatives have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the First Baptist church of Akron, conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. E. Brown. Interment was in Riverside cemetery, Akron.
