Description	:	Ina Delpha Whitney is the daughter of Earnest and Minnie VanVores Whitney. She marries Herman Sharff on her 18th birthday. They have five children together. * * * Ina D. Sharff, 61, was born Jan. 1, 1891, at Lamont, the daughter of Earnest and Minnie Whitney, pioneers of that community. Sharff, 61, was born Jan. 1, 1891, at Lamont, the daughter of Earnest and Minnie Whitney, pioneers of that community. She received her education in the Lamont schools and on her 18th birthday, Jan. 1, 1909, she married Herman Sharff at Independence. The first nine years of their married life were spent in Lamont where they were active in the community and in the Baptist church. In 1919 they moved to Oelwein and lived here ever since. In August 1951, she became ill and was taken to the University hospital in Iowa City and was there for several weeks. She never recovered from this illness and Sept. 10 at 6:10 a.m. she died. She was a member of the Rebbecca Lodge and the Woman's Relief Corps. She had five children, and all survive. They are Edith; Mrs. Casper Osterman, Riverside, Ill.; Gladys, Kennewick, Wash.; Opal, Mrs. Paul Galer, Oelwein; and two sons, Hugo of Oelwein and Herman Jr., who is in the armed service. Other survivors are her husband, her father, six grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Ivan Hessner, Mrs. Lee Ehler and Jenny Whitney; and two brothers, Orville Whitney and Jason Whitney. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother Harry. Funeral services were held at the Brant funeral home Saturday, Sept 13, with the Rev. Ralph E. Johnson, pastor of the Baptist church in charge. Burial was at Woodlawn cemetery. (Obit in the Oelwein Daily Register, Sept. 18, 1952, page 2)
