She was preceded in death by her Parents—Husband (Paul W. Galer on November 1, 1970)—Granddaughter (Michele Ellis)--Brother (Hugo D. Sharff)—and 2 Sisters (Gladys Sharff and Edith Ostermann). Opal Marie Sharff was born on November 7, 1916 at Lamont, Iowa the daughter of Herman and Ina (Whitney) Sharff. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1934. Opal married Paul Wayne Galer on April 24, 1941 at Princeton, Missouri. She worked in production at Douglas Air Craft in Long Beach, California and later at Western Pipe and Steel in San Pedro, California. Opal also worked at J.C. Penny Co., Hartig Drug Store, and Pamida all in Oelwein, Iowa. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star Oelwein Chapter # 45, and a member of N.A.R.V.R.E.. Opal had been a resident of the Oelwein Health Care Center since March of 2008. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home
