Inez died May 30, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Bismarck, ND. Inez Sackmann, daughter of John J. and Magdalena (Nagel) Sackmann was born May 31, 1929, on the family farm seven miles east of Ashley. This is where she grew up while attending country school and helping on the family farm. At the age of 17 she moved to Ashley with her parents. She worked at Spitzers Dry Goods Store and babysat for her sisters. Inez was united in marriage to Raymond “Ray” Salzer on June 20, 1948, in Ashley. They made their home in Ashley where Ray started an electrical business in June 1948. Inez was actively involved in the business doing secretarial duties. She taught Sunday School, was church pianist, worked with young people, did women’s work, sang in the choir and was involved with hospital auxiliary activities. She always had a large garden and did volunteer work at the nursing home and at many civic events. She enjoyed making quilts and donated money to missions. During the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s, Ray and Inez did volunteer work overseas in six countries and three states in the United States. Ray passed away July 7, 1996. Having shared her life are two daughters and three sons. Paulette, Mrs. Bud Page, Tyler, Texas; and Prudy, Mrs. John Olson, University Park, Iowa; Vince (Deanie) Salzer, Guayaquil, Ecuador; Vaughn Salzer, Ashley, North Dakota; Verlyn “J” (Teri) Salzer, Fort Worth, Texas, 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Ollie Sackmann and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and six sisters, one infant brother and one infant sister. Honorary Casketbearers will be Inez’s Bible Study Group and Tabitha Members. Casketbearers will be Dustin Salzer, Kyle Olson, Ryne Salzer, Natasha Salzer, Brayden Salzer and Raechelle Salzer. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
