Iola Sibylla Folkerts was born Feb 22, 1916, in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa, the daughter of John F. and Katherine Tobiason Folkerts. She received her early education in the rural schools of Wayne Township. Iola graduated from Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1934. She then taught in Wayne Township schools No 2 and No 9 for 11 years. Iola then helped farm the family farm, moving to Monticello in 1963 with her sister Esther. Iola was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. She was baptized there on March 17, 1916 and confirmed her faith on April 3, 1931. Iola is survived by many cousins and the Richard Moore family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Esther; and two brothers, Elmer and Lloyd. Memorials may be made to Wayne Zion Cemetery.
