(Source: Gage County, NE Marriage Records) ======================== Chester Herald (Chester, NE), Thursday, November 5, 1942; pg. 1 Obituary of - IRA BEFORD WARTHEN Ira Beford (sic) Warthen, youngest of eight children, five sisters and two brothers, son of Nancy Jane Dow and Ira Smith Warthen, was born at Martinsville, Morgan County, Indiana, March 22, 1863 and passed from this life at his home in Republic County, Kansas, two miles south east of Chester, Nebraska, Nov. 1st, 1942. When Ira was but three weeks of age his father died and he with his brothers and sisters was raised by a widowed mother. He grew to manhood at the place of his birth and at the age of 19 years came to Nebraska where he made his home in Cage County. It was there September 12, 1886 that he was united in marriage to Miss Alice Martin. This union, which lasted over 56 years was blessed by one son who survives the father. Mr. and Mrs. Warthen moved to the farm southeast of Chester in December, 1891 and her with the exception of a short time when they lived in Burlington, Kansas and Chester, Nebraska, they have lived ever since. Mr. Warthen became a Christian early in life and moving to Chester vicinity, united with the Christian Church there, of which church he had long been a faithful member. Mr. Warthen has been in poor health for a long time and for the past nine months has been bed-fast. Here cared for by his devoted and loving wife, he has been a patient sufferer. He has turned naturally to God's Word for strength and support during these time of suffering and daily asked for the reading of the Bible. Mr. Warthen leaves to mourn his passing his widow - his partner for over a half century, their son, Walter of Burlington, Kansas, two grand daughters, also of Burlington, Mrs. Alice Spencer and Miss Mildred Warthen. There are also many other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors to whom his passing will be a loss. =========================== The Hebron Journal (Hebron, NE), Thursday, November 12, 1942; pg. 2 Ira Warthen passed away at his home, last Sunday evening. He had been a great sufferer for a long time, being bedfast for months, which he bore patiently. Funeral services were held in the Christian church (sic) on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Morris Bailey. He leaves his wife and one son, Walter of Burlington, Kans., and two granddaughters, besides a number of close relatives around Hubbell. Burial was in the Chester cemetery (sic).
