ALICE WARTHEN Mrs. Alice Warthen, daughter of Joseph and Anna Martin was born August 7, 1866 near Beatrice, Gage County, Nebraska, and passed away July 1, 1949 at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 23 days, at the home of her son, Walter of Burlington, Kansas. She grew to womanhood near Beatrice and on September 12, 1886 she was united in marriage to Ira B. Warthen. To this union one son was born. In December 1891 they moved to a farm southeast of Chester, Nebraska, where they lived, with the exception of a short time, until the death of her husband November 1, 1942. She lived with her sister, Mrs. Julia Malstead for a time. In March 1947 she became stricken with a heart ailment and was taken to the Belleville Hospital. In August 1947 she was brought to the home of her son, Walter, where she lived until the time of her death. She had been a semi-invalid for over a year, and the last five weeks she was bedfast. She united with the Christian Church in early life and kept this faith until the end. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Walter and two grand daughters, Louie Alice Spencer, Burlington, Kansas, and Mildred Grace Wright, LeRoy, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Ruth Ann Spencer, Walter Charles Spencer, Herla Sue Spencer and Linda Lou Wright; one sister, Mrs. Julia Malstead; and one brother, Mr. Geo. Martin, Thomas, Okla. besides nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held in the Christian Church. Donna Lee Sell and Bonnie Moxham sang a duet with Mrs. Ray Truss, accompanist. Interment was in the Chester Cemetery.
