He was the son of Alfred and Ella (McKillips) Mitchell. On Sunday, February 18, 1945, Ira married Ella (Newberg) Naslund in Webster City. For 30 years Ira owned and operated service stations in Stratford. He owned and managed the Phillips 66 station for many years, and the Mobile station in later years. Ira was a member of the Stratford Baptist Church, Stratford. Survivors include his wife, Ella, Stratford; daughter, Lois Somermeyer, Tucson, AZ; two step-daughters, Pauline Stoner, Stratford; Robert Ogden, Arlington, VA; one grandson; two great-grandchildren; six step grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; three step great-great-grandchildren.
