He passed away on March 9, 2004 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, NE at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 6 days. He passed away on March 9, 2004 at Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, NE at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 6 days. Ira graduated from Nelson High School with the class of 1939, having a much decorated High School athletic career. He was a veteran of WWII serving February 27, 1941 through September 12, 1945, one year Continental Service, three years Foreign Service. He was united in marriage to Dayle Lavonne Perryman on April 22, 1945 in Yuma, AZ. This union was blessed with five children. Ira owned and operated Clabaugh Furniture and Appliance store in Nelson. He was a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ, Nelson American Legion Post #187 and the V.F.W. Post #7197, past member of the Nelson Chamber of Commerce and the Nelson Fire Department. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Dayle, on January 4, 1990, one son, Michael LaVerne Clabaugh on February 12, 1995, and one sister Lois Clabaugh Ruttman. Survivors include one brother, Lee Clabaugh of Nelson, NE; two sons, John Clabaugh of Lincoln, NE; and Richard Clabaugh and wife Linda of Beatrice, NE; and two daughters, Mary Jo Holt and husband Lynn of Nelson, NE; and Christine Anne Clabaugh of Superior, NE; eight grandchildren, Brent Clabaugh, Adam Clabaugh, Nathan Clabaugh, Lauren Clabaugh, Tyler Clabaugh, Karie Thompson, Lindsey Holt, and Amanda Holt, and four great-grandchildren, Damion Holt, Darik Holt, Selena Carrazco and Britnie Thompson, nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 12, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, NE with Rev. Dr. Stephen Berry officiating. Music was "Until Then" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", with Ruth Watts as soloist and Betty McKevitt as organist. Pallbearers were Brent Clabaugh, Nathan Clabaugh, Tyler Clabaugh, Adam Clabaugh, Dave Clabaugh and Matt Thompson. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery with Full Military Rites at Nelson, NE.
