The obituary as follows: Ira Louis Hempy, the son of Marion and Annetta Kohl Hempy, was born in Greenfield township, Jones county, Iowa, on May 20, 1885 and passed away after a brief illness, at Mercy hospital, Anamosa, on Dec. 1, 1964. He grew to manhood in the White Oak community south of Martelle. He united with the White Oak church early in life and was a devout and faithful member of the church throughout his life. On Dec. 22, 1903, he was united in marriage to Grace Krumroy at the home of the bride's parents. Two daughters and one son were born to this union. They settled on the family farm and continued to farm until they retired and moved to anamosa in September 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Hempy observed their 60th wedding anniversary last December. Mr. Hempy was a member of Patmos Lodge No. 155 A.F. & A.M. at Mechanicsville since 1935 and was a Past Master of the lodge. He was also a member and Past Patron of Evangeline Chapter No. 393 Order of the Eastern Star of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by both his parents, his son Ivan, and a daughter, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Hempy, Anamosa; a daughter, Mrs. Merle (Violet) Clifton, Mechanicsville; six grandchildren, Mrs. Alberta Svoboda, Mechanicsville; Mrs. Verla Pollock, Cedar Rapids; Patricia Clifton, Mechanicsville; Ilene, Marilyn and Karen Hempy, of Anamosa. He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Wayne, Joy and Sally Kay Svoboda, Anne Pollock. Mr. Hempy was a man who loved his home, his family and his friends. His presence among those he knew and loved will be greatly missed and his memory will be greatly cherished. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
