Mrs. Irena Marquis, daughter of Charles and Nancy Kilgore was born in Clarke County, Iowa, April 29th, 1869 and departed this life at her home April 17th, 1917 age 47 years, 11 months and 18 days. Mrs. Irena Marquis, daughter of Charles and Nancy Kilgore was born in Clarke County, Iowa, April 29th, 1869 and departed this life at her home April 17th, 1917 age 47 years, 11 months and 18 days. She was from a family of 11 children, 7 daughters and 4 sons. One sister Sarah and three brothers Will, Joe and Harvey and father having proceeded her to her home beyond. She was united in marriage to Jackson B. Marquis, Dec. 25, 1888 to this happy union were born eight children, 5 daughters and 3 sons, namely Manning, Beulah, Belva, Ruth, Bernice, Elise, Wade and Gerald all of which with their father are living and which were with her through her sickness and at the time of her death also her two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Henderson and mourn her loss a good husband and sisters, Mrs. Malinda DeBord of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Margaret Henderson and Mrs. Martha Wagner both of Logan, Iowa and Mrs. Ava Marquis of this county and Mrs. Mary Canney of Osceola and one brother, John Kilgore of Dayton, Texas, two grand children, Farol and Arlene Feight and a host of relatives and friends. Mrs. Marquis confessed her faith in Christ in 1906 in a meeting held by Rev. Zike and later was buried in baptism with her Lord and Savior in 1912 by Rev. Bennett. Mrs. Marquis was taken sick three weeks to a day previous to her death, with erysipelas which effected her whole system and involved her death. Her disease baffled the skill of medical science, everything possible was done by kind hands and friends but God saw fit to relieve her of her suffering and called her home to rest. She suffered much but bore her pain patiently without a murmur, bearing all that others might be spared. She was a kind and loving mother, a faithful companion and a devoted Christian. She always endeavored to lend a helping hand to others and considering the needs and comforts of her family and others instead of herself and her friends were always welcome in her home. Mrs. Marquis died near the homestead of where she was born and has a large circle of friends who loved her and they were numbered by her acquaintances. The funeral was held at Bethel Chapel, Thursday, April 19, by Rev. A. F. Polk of Lacona and the remains was laid to rest at that place. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of this community in this dark hour. Card of Thanks.
