Irene Nelsen was born June 14, 1908, in Ringsted, daughter of Andrew and Mary (Bonnicksen) Nelsen. She lived in Ringsted all her life. She graduated from Ringsted High School. She married Victor J. Ostedgaard Dec. 23, 1928, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ringsted. She worked as a cook for many years, nine years at a café she owned in Ringsted and two years at the school. Later she cooked at Valley View Care Center in Armstrong for nine years and was a cook at Davidson Café in Ringsted four years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ringsted Senior Citizens and other community clubs. Survivors include: daughters, Rita Hamilton and husband, Bill, of Emmetsburg, and Marilyn Johnson and husband, Loren, of Ringsted; Gene Ostedgaard and wife, Irma, of Ringsted, Robert Ostedgaard and wife, Donna, and David Ostedgaard and wife, Lynda, all of Iowa City, Iowa; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Virgil Nelsen and wife, Lorraine, of Stephenville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, two infant daughters, two grandchildren and her parents. (Sentinel, Fairmont, MN, October 22, 1996)
