Irene Ristau was born on February 6, 1928, in Aberdeen, to Robert E. and Sophia (Luebke) Ristau of Mansfield, SD. Read More	Date of Birth: February 06, 1928 Died on: December 21, 2017 Irene H. Schaunaman, 89, of Aberdeen, SD, passed away December 21, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen. Irene Ristau was born on February 6, 1928, in Aberdeen, to Robert E. and Sophia (Luebke) Ristau of Mansfield, SD. She attended grade school in New Hope Township, Brown County at the Busy Bee School through the eighth grade. She then attended Warner High School, graduating in 1946. Irene went on to receive her Secondary Teacher Certificate after two summer school sessions at Northern State. She taught grade school in New Hope Township in Old Glory and Busy Bee schools. She was also a clerk for the Brown County Superintendent of Schools for five years. On February 14, 1957, Irene married Irl Schaunaman at St. John's Lutheran Church, Highland Township. This is the church where Irene had been baptized and confirmed. They lived on a farm in New Hope Township for three years. In 1959 they moved to a farm half a mile North of Warner, where they remained until 2008. Irene was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she served in many LWML offices and taught Sunday school. She was active in the church's Walther League youth organization and held offices in the zone. Irene attended the International Conventions in St. Louis, MO, and New York City, NY. She loved cooking and baking and made and decorated many birthday, anniversary and wedding cakes in her home. She then worked in Kessler's Bakery for five years. One of her peach pies once sold for $250.00 at an auction! Irl and Irene bowled for many years in the Lutheran 1 League. Irene was proud of picking the 4-6-7-10 split. She enjoyed raising flowers and sharing them for their church services. Irene especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchild, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Grateful for having shared Irene's life are her, sons: Lee (Kelly) Schaunaman, Aberdeen, and Gary Schaunaman, Warner, SD; daughter, Susan K. (Jon) Seaton, Aberdeen; grandchildren: Naomi (Justin) Hull, Rachel Seaton, Stephanie (Michael) Jahn, Audra, Jonah, and Elijah Schaunaman; great-granddaughter, Melanie Jahn; step-grandchildren: Amanda (Andy) Dolan, Staci (Sreedhar) Thota, Justin (Naomi) Hull, Dominic Hull (Andrew Frisbie), and Spencer (Vhine) Hull; step-great-grandchildren: Ryan, Adrienne and Kiersten Dolan, Sohan, Sahasra and Shalini Thota, and Liam Hull. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert J. (Lois M.) Ristau, and Trudy (Lyle) Schaunaman; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Irl Schaunaman, her parents, Robert and Sophia Ristau, and her brother Alvin (Beulah) Ristau.
