ARCHER, IRENE RUTH—Irene Ruth Heath Archer was born to August J. Mussman and Lena Phingston Mussman on Nov. 14, 1913, near Tobias. She passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 1 day. She was baptized on Feb. 8th, 1914, in St. John’s Lutheran Church near Ohiowa. She was confirmed in the same church on May 26, 1929. Her confirmation verse was “The meek will He guide in judgment and the meek will He teach His way. Oh that the Lord will guide my ways. To Keep His statutes still. Oh that the Lord would grant me grace to know and to do His will.” She remained a faithful member of the Lutheran choir for many years. She attended school and graduated from Fillmore county schools. Irene worked in many homes helping with the household and the children until her marriage. She helped her parents on the farm and worked for many other people who needed help. She took pride in helping care for the sick and in making them comfortable. She cared for her aged grandmother, Dorethea Mussman in her later years. Irene was married to Ira Arthur Heath of Geneva on Aug. 6, 1939, and their marriage was blessed with one son, Ronald Gene and one daughter, Roine Rae. Irene was a loving wife and mother, bringing her children up in the Christian Faith. Not only was she a mother to her children, but also a very special and best friend. In 1961, when the Fillmore County Hospital first opened, she began to work in the laundry and for the first month she was the only laundry person hired, and did all the washing herself. She worked there for six years. On Nov. 23, 1964, she was married to Merl E. Archer of Geneva and together they had a happy home. After his death in 1984, Irene continued to live in Geneva and shared her life with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She shared in their joys and in their sorrows. Each child was special to her. She loved her church and knew God was always with her. He gave her strength to endure. She loved her friends and neighbors, welcomed and appreciated all of the help offered her in later years. Meals from the Senior Center and hospital were much appreciated. She enjoyed knowing and meeting the many kind people who brought her those meals. In younger years she was an excellent cook and enjoyed having the family together for the holidays always providing an excellent meal. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Irene became a member of the United Methodist Church in Geneva on August 1, 1948, and received her 50 year membership pin this past year. She belonged to the Women’s Church Circle for several years and the United Methodist Women in later years and also the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved keeping a clean and tidy home and gardening, flowers and lawn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husbands, Ira A. Heath who passed away in 1957, and Merl E. Archer in 1984; by her son, Ronald Gene Heath in 1992; by four sisters, Hazel Pearl Mussman, Stella Bredemeier, Lillie Gewecke and Elsie Schulte. She is survived by her daughter, Roine Anderson and husband, Rodger, daughter-in-law, Bonnie Heath; six grandsons, Clayton and wife Wendy Heath, Brian Heath and wife April, Bradley Heath and wife Dawn, Rodney Anderson, Ronald Anderson, and Larry Anderson; 3 great-granddaughters, Charlie Rae Heath, Alicia Marie Heath, and Jami Lynn Heath; 3 great-grandsons, Seth Wesley, Joshua Park Crawford and Brady Gene Heath; sisters, Josie Rigby, Everna Reinsch, and Lucille Schrock and husband Donald; brother-in-law, Bernice Bredemeier and his wife Eileen, and by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 20, 1998, at the United Methodist church in Geneva with Rev. Dennis Linton-Hendrick officiating. Sue Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin V. Myers who sang “Precious Lord, Take My Hand’, “Hymn of Promise”, and “Amazing Grace.” Casket bearers were: Clayton, Brian, and Bradley Heath, Rodney, Ronald and Larry Anderson. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal October 28th, 1998 page 8.
