February 4, 1993 Obituary from the Douglas County Herald, Ava, Douglas, Missouri: "Irl Maxwell, 95, Dies in California - Irl Maxwell, 95, died Monday, December 14, 1992, at his house in Red Bluff, Calif. Born October 10, 1897, at Rome, Mo., Mr. Maxwell moved to Tehama County, Calif., in 1920 and made his home in Corning for 22 years before moving to Red Bluff. For 35 years he was the owner and manager of Mace and Co., a grain and feed milling operation that later became Albers Milling in Red Bluff, Calif. After retiring, he formed the I.G. Maxwell Co., and as a broker he sold hay, bailing wire and twine. Mr. Maxwell was the last surviving charter member of the Red Bluff Lions Club, having been a member for more than 52 years. He served as president in 1941 and was chairman of various committees throughout his membership. In 1969 he was named Lion of the Year. He was a member in both the Corning and Red Bluff United Methodist churches for more than 62 years, taught Sunday school and was involved in the youth groups. He was also a bowler, golfer, hunter and angler. Surviving are his wife, Orlene Rupp Maxwell; son and daughter-in-law Allen and Nita Maxwell; daughter Charlene Hughart, of Red Bluff; daughter and son-in-law Charlotte and Chuck Adkins, of Red Bluff; stepdaughter Vickie Robertson, of Indigo, Calif.; brothers Tom Maxwell, of Azusa, Calif., and Rupert Maxwell, of Redding, Calif.; sisters, Eva Surguine, of Ava, Letitia Hall, of Roseville, Calif., and Eleanor Rowe, of Little Rock, Ark., 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 57 years, Lois Rice Maxwell, of Corning, Calif.; his parents, Jim and Bettie Maxwell; and four brothers, Homer, Russell, Joy and George. Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, 1992, at First United Methodist Church, Red Bluff, Calif. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery."
