Surviving is a son Gerald (Jo) Bodeker of Robins, 3 grandchildren, Greg Bodeker, Cedar Rapids, Denise (Gary) Sorensen, Topeka, Kansas, Brian (Ruby) Bodeker, Burlington, 6 great-Grandchildren, Bailey, Connor, Cian, Isaac, Coralee and Merritt, a brother, Irvin (Ruby) Toenjes, Anamosa, 3 sisters, Luella Ulferts, Anamosa, Edna Dirks and Velda (Wilfred) Schatz, and a sister-in-law Clara Herren all of Monticello. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her husband, and a brother, Leslie Toenjes. Irma Elise Toenjes was born August 22, 1910 in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ahrend Gerhard and Maria H. Zimmerman, Toenjes. She received her education in the rural schools near her home. Irma then helped operate the family farm following her father's death. Irma E. Toenjes and John Bodeker were married February 15, 1935 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Amber for many years before moving to Center Junction. Irma cleaned rural school houses and she also took care of the Presbyterian Church in Amber. Irma also was a baby sitter for many families. John preceded her in death on June 26, 1974. Irma then moved to Monticello. She was a life long member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Irma was known as a hard working, kind-hearted women, who loved taking care of young children, including her family members. A long-time gardener, Irma also enjoyed bird watching and playing cards with her friends, family and neighbors. She took great pride in her family and delighted in visits from her great-grandchildren.
