Services were held Friday April 15, 1994, at St. Paul Lutheran church in Sheldon with the Rev. Paul Forde officiating. Graveside services were in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, with Rev. William Flemr of Immanuel Lutheran church of Akron officiating, with the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon in charge of arrangements. Read More	Irma R. Johnson, 83, of Sheldon died Tuesday, April 12, 1994, at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. Services were held Friday April 15, 1994, at St. Paul Lutheran church in Sheldon with the Rev. Paul Forde officiating. Graveside services were in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, with Rev. William Flemr of Immanuel Lutheran church of Akron officiating, with the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Johnson was born July 12, 1910, in Sterling, Neb., the daughter of Edward and Carrie (Boatsman) Johnson. She received her education in the Sterling schools and graduated from Sterling high school in 1928 as class valedictorian. She then moved with her family to Chatsworth and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, where she received a teacher's certificate in 1930. She taught in the elementary school in Titonka for one year, before moving to Akron, where she taught for five years. On June 28, 1936, she married Clifford E. Johnson in Sioux City. The couple made their home in Akron until 1951 when they moved to Sheldon. She taught in the two-room Matlock School from 1957 to 1960 and in the Boyden-Hull school from 1960 to 1972. She earned her BA Degree from Westmar College in Le Mars in 1961. She retired in 1972. After retirement, the couple spend one winter in Arizona and 19 winters in Florida. She entered the care center in August 1993. Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Sheldon and attend Grace Lutheran church in Lakeland, Fla. She was a Sunday school secretary and was active in the Dorcas Circle. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Sylvia Hawker and her husband, Fred of Greene, Iowa, and Kay Gower and her husband Walt of Duluth, Minn.; six grandchildren, Devin Hawker and his wife, Wendy of North Hollywood, Calif., Kara Vander Wiel and her husband, Kurt of Cedar Falls, Ross Hawker of Cedar Falls, David Gower of Duluth, Stephen Gower of Davenport and Sarah Gower of Alexandria, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Logan Vander Wiel and Hannah and Grace Hawker; and a sister, Carol E. Johnson of Fort Dodge. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Anne in infancy; and two sisters, Nellie in infancy and Margaret Thomas. Memorials have been established in her name for the scholarship fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Oak Park Care Center.
