Description	:	Seymour Herald 07/22/48 Irvin Burton Brown Irvin Burton Brown, son of John and Elizabeth Brown, was born on the "old Brown homestead" about five miles northeast of St. John in Putnam County, Mo., July 5, 1878. He grew to manhood in this same community and on April 25, 1898, he was united in marriage to Nellie A. Read More	Seymour Herald 07/22/48 Irvin Burton Brown Irvin Burton Brown, son of John and Elizabeth Brown, was born on the "old Brown homestead" about five miles northeast of St. John in Putnam County, Mo., July 5, 1878. He grew to manhood in this same community and on April 25, 1898, he was united in marriage to Nellie A. Godfrey and they continued to live in and around this same community where they raised their family of six boys and one girl. They are Orval of Unionville, Mo., John of Seymour, Mrs. Kermit Baker, or Numa, Jesse at home, and Tommy of Seymour. He was a faithful companion, a devoted father and a loyal friend and neighbor. He was converted in 1902 in a meeting at Genoa but did not unite with the church. He said at the last that God was calling him and he was ready to go. He and his dear wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last April 25 at their home in Seymour, which has been his home since October 1936. He has always been a strong, rugged man until a short time ago, when he began to fail in health. He rapidly grew worse, passing away at this home in Seymour early Wednesday morning, July 14, 1948, his age being 70 years and 9 days. He leaves behind his loving wife, six sons, and one daughter, 14 grandchildren, one great grandson, one brother, William Brown of Powersville, Mo., a host of nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., July 15, at the United Brethren church with the Rev. Ronald Dold officiating. Casket bearers were Emmett Brown, Dallas Brown, Glen L. Brown, Bill Godfrey, Gerald Godfrey, and Ray Shriver. Mrs. Carol Zimmerman and Miss Caroly Staggs, accompanied by Miss Alice Clark at the pinao, furnished the music. Burial was in Southlawn.
