W. and Barbara Pollock Godfrey, was born in Putnam County, o., near St. John, March 23, 1876, and departed from this life July 30, 1960, at the Wayne County hospital at the age of 84 years, four months and seven days. As a young girl she was converted and joined the Light Chapel United Brethren church near St. John where she attended for many years. She was united in marriage to Irvin Burton Brown April 25, 1898. To this union were born six sons and one daughter, who survive her passing. They are Orval of Unionville, Mo., Ira of Numa, Mrs. Cleta Baker of Centerville, John, Evert Jesse and Tommy of Seymour. She is survived also by 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Kate Shriver of Powersville, Mo., and three brothers, Harl and Jim Godfrey of Powersville, and Emmet Godfrey of Davenport. There are five daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Irvin Burton, on July 14, 1958 [actually 1948], her parents, one sister and two brothers. Since the death of her loving husband, she has made her home with her son Jesse, who cared for her until she needed hospital care. All that loving hands could do was done, but God had called her home. Funeral services were Tuesday at the Liggett Funeral home with the Rev Clive Cook of the Seymour Evangelical United Brethren church officiating. Burial was in Southlawn Cemetery. Mrs. John Wickam and Mrs. Carol Zimmerman sang "Going Down to the Valley" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", accompanied by Mrs. Harlie Merritt. Pallbearers were Dallas Brown, Charles Brown, Glen L. Brown, Garald Godfrey, Bill Godfrey, and J. T. Godfrey. ************************************** Seymour Herald 08/04/1960 Nellie Brown Died at Corydon Mrs. Nellie Brown, who had spent the past two months at the Wayne County hospital, died there Saturday. She was the mother of John, Evert, Jesse, and Tommy Brown, all of Seymour; and Orval of Unionville, Mo., Ira of Numa and Mrs. Cleta Baker of Centerville.
