Stephen and Tobias are listed as killed in action on the same day, Jul 18, 1863 at Ft Wagner, SC. ********************************************* Headstones to be dedicated for three brothers who served in Civil War Jon Baker The Times-Reporter -- 14 May 2021 BALTIC A ceremony is planned Sunday at the Shutt-Berger (Church of the Brethren) Cemetery near Baltic to dedicate markers to three brothers from Holmes County who served in the Civil War. The cemetery is located on Clark Township Road 175. Tobias, Isaac and Stephen Miller all served in Company C, 67th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Tobias and Stephen were both killed in the second battle to take Fort Wagner, S.C., on July 18, 1863. This battle is made famous by the movie "Glory." Isaac survived the war and lived in Holmes County until his death in 1900. Evelyn Ting of Brunswick Ga., and Rod MIller of Gettysburg, Pa., both descendants of Isaac, will participate in the event. "It's very, very moving that there is a community of people who care this much to make sure veterans of whatever war are remembered," Ting said. "I'm pretty excited about it." The event Sunday will begin with music from 1:40 to 2 p.m., provided by Steve and Lisa Ball and Larry Stahl. Members of American Legion Post 494 of Sugarcreek will lead the ceremony. Forrest Chanay, a veteran and a member of the Civil War Roundtable, will have charge of the dedication of the headstones, using the dedication prescribed by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War . The Ladies of the GAR will be strewing flowers at their graves. Jerry Payn, portraying Abraham Lincoln, will also speak. Reenactors from the 41st Ohio Volunteer Infantry and other groups will provide honors for the three veterans. Boy Scout Troop No. 91 will be assisting with the ceremony also.
