George Kennedy officiating. He was born in Fayette county, Pennsylvania. December 21. 1830. and was therefore in bis seventy-ninth year at tbe time of bis demise, or seventy-eight years, two months, fourteen days. He was one of a family of ten children, and moved with his parents to West Virginia in an early day. He was united in marriage to Miss Martha Vanderwort, July 25. 1858, and to them were born nine children, three dying in infancy, and another, Mrs. J.F. Carmance who died in 1897. His wife and five children survive him, Mrs. R. Santee and Mrs. G. J. Sharp, Independence, and Delia and Clara Swearingen who remain at home with their mother. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Mr. Swearingen was a kind husband and father, and he was held in high esteem by his friends. He bad been a member of the M. E. church for the past half century, and died in the Christian faith.In the year of 1865 he enlisted in Company D. Seventh regiment West Virginia infantry, and served faithfully till the close of the war. A number of the members of the G.A.R. were present at the last services. He was a good man who had resided in this section a number of years, aad sympathy is expressed to his bereaved relatives in the loss they have sustained. Card of Thanks.
