Messick Died Last Sunday FUNERAL RITES HELD AT ASBURY CHURCH Mrs. Isabelle C. Messick, esteemed and highly respected resident of the suburbs, died at her home in the Asbury section on Sunday last after an illness of some two years. Mrs. Messick, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John T. Byrd, and widow of the late Rufus B. Messick, who succumbed about two years ago, was seventy-seven years of age when claimed by death. One of Asbury's best loved citizens, Mrs. Messick will be sadly missed by her legion of warm friends, who are in great sorrow at her passing. Hers was a sweet, noble character and she was ever a wonderful wife and mother and a true neighbor and friend. She was highly religious and was a firm believer in the Bible, a book which she loved dearly, and all its teachings. Next to her church she loved her home and family and took the greatest delight in making her home one in which she and her family could reside in peace and comfort. In the death of Mrs. Messick, Asbury has lost one of its pioneer residents, whose love for the community and all its people reached great proportions, but has also lost one of its finest, most noble citizens, whose place can never be completely filled. Mrs. Messick is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Haskins, of Richmond, Va. and a son, John Messick, of this city. Largely attended funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the Asbury Methodist Church, with the pastor, Rev. J. T. Rowlenson, officiating. Interment was in the Asbury cemetery.
