Description	:	Oliver P. Byrd was the son of John T. Byrd and Matilda J. Tawes Byrd. He married Lydia P. Jones on 21 May 1885 in Worcester County, Maryland. They were shown as Oliver P. Byrd, age 29, and Lydia P. Jones, age 24, who married at Beaver Dam Presbyterian Church in Pocomoke City, Maryland. Lydia was the daughter of Henry C. Jones and Anne Hinman Jones. Children: 1. Byrd, who was operated on at the General and Marine Hospital, by Dr. McFadden Dick, of Salisbury, for strangulation of the bowels, on Friday, died at that institution on Saturday about 5 p.m. from a complication of diseases. Mr. Byrd was born at Lawsonia on Feb. 24, 1856. He married Miss Lydia P. Jones, of Pocomoke City, on May 27, 1885. Their children are a boy, Harry, and a girl, Edith, both of whom are living. In the political arena, Mr. Byrd was highly favored by being elected to serve in the legislature for two terms — 1894 and 1896. For the year 1898 he had an appointment in the Senate's work. The years 1899 to 1902 found him hard at work as collector of taxes for this district; and during the incumbency of Mr. A.L. Dryden, as sub-Treasurer in Baltimore, Mr. Byrd was one of the assistants there. The schools of lower Somerset County were the foundations where the deceased received his educational training, and by them was enabled to made a success of the sea food business, when he entered the firm which his father had already established. The funeral services were held at his late residence on Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Dr. O'Brien, of Asbury M.E. Church, and the remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground.
