Mrs. Wood had been in her customary good health and had celebrated her 76th birthday on January 12th. She had done her daily marketing on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 13th, on which afternoon about 5 p.m. she was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage, and although rushed to St. Joseph's hospital, where everything was done for her that could be, she never regained consciousness and passed away Friday morning. Isabella Clark was born and raised on the fourth line of Melancthon, on the farm now owned by Jim Taggart, and attended Mill's school. She was the third child of the late John Clark and Eliza Ann Montgomery. Her mother died when Bella was sixteen years of age, leaving five younger children, one (Tom), being a baby ten days old, which brother she mothered until her father re-married two years later. Then on January 23rd, 1895 Bella Clark married the late Richard Wood and went to live on lot 9, con. 2, Melancthon, on which farm five of her six children were born. In the fall of 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Wood sold their farm and moved to Toronto. They lived there until Mr. Wood was stricken with a heart attack in 1932, when they came back to the farm formerly owned by Robert Wood, near Masonville, where Richard Wood died in July 1936. Then Mrs. Wood and Isobel moved to Shelburne for two years and then again to Toronto, where she and Isobel have lived together ever since. Mrs. Wood was always a very kind and loving mother and grandmother and was greatly loved by all who knew her for jovial and carefree disposition. Her greatest interest outside the home was her church - The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Bathurst Street, Toronto, and the many friends who called at the funeral parlors of Elliott and Myers on North Yonge Street, where the body lay until Sunday evening, where a service was held at 9 p.m., by her pastor, Rev. Boothe. The many floral tributes also bore mute testimony to the esteem in which the late Mrs. Wood was held. After the service in Toronto the body was taken by motor to Gamble's funeral home in Shelburne, where a short service was conducted by Rev. W. Latimer, of Horning's Mills, after which the body was placed in Shelburne Vemetery Mortuary until Spring. It will then be buried in the family plot at Horning's Mills. The late Mrs. Wood leaves five children to mourn her loss: Mrs. Robert Mackenzie (Sadie), Alliston; Lindsey, Islington; Dick (Edmonton); Mrs. Wm. Hands (Bernice), Toronto; Mrs. Norman McKarnan (Isobel), Toronto. One son Joe predeceased her in January 1918, having been killed in an aeroplane accident in England, also thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. The pallbearers were six nephews of deceased: Thomas, Wiliam and Ross Johnston, James Brown, Geo. Fraser and Hector Berry.
