GEORGE JOHNSTON: On Sunday, August 29th, 1937, there passed to the Great Beyond a true wife and loving mother and a kind neighbor and friend, at her home at Masonville, in the person of Mrs. George Johnston. Mrs. Johnston suffered a stroke over four years ago which left her a semi-invalid but during the spring and summer of 1936 she became well enough to perform small tasks around her home. In December last she was again stricken and was bedfast for eight weeks, but later regained strength enough to be about until two weeks before she died, death being due to a heart condition for which there could be nothing done. For many years she was a member of Horning's Mills Methodist (later United) Church, but due to poor health had not been able to attend for a number of years. Until the time of her illness a few years ago she was an ardent worker among the needy in her midst. Her most happy and satisfying hours were those spent helping to alleviate the suffering of others in time of sickness or need. Deceased's maiden name was Margaret Jane Clark. She was a daughter of the late John Clark and Eliza Ann Montgomery, and was born on Lot 13, Fourth Line, Old Survey, Melancthon, 62 years ago. On Feb. 6th, 1894, she married George Johnston, who survives her, along with a family of six daughters and three sons: Mrs. Jas. A. Brown, Horning's Mills; Mrs. Hector Berry, Waldemar; Mrs. Geo. T. Fraser, Horning's Mills; Winnie; Thos. G., Corbetton; Wm. J., Masonville; Ross, at home. Two sisters and three brothers survive: Mrs. Bella Wood, Shelburne; Mrs. Catherine L. McManus, Saskatoon, Sask., who, after an absence of 39 years, arrived unexpectedly one week before her sister passed away; John Clark, North Battleford, Sask.; Thomas Clark, Neepawin, Sask.; Wm. Clark, Winnipeg, Man., who was home in April. Also eleven grandchildren. The funeral service, Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 31st, was conducted by Rev. W. J. Tribble, of Shelburne, cousin of deceased, assisted by Rev. Mr. Jewitt, of Horning's Mills United Church. Interment took place in Horning's Mills Cemetery. The pallbearers were six neighbors, Messrs. W. J. Ferris, Harold Brown, Alex. Snider, Roy Wattem, Stewart Pearsall and Ross Horsley. The floral tributes were: Pillow, husband and family; spray, grandchildren; wreath, Mrs. R. Madill, Mr. and Mrs. S. Pearsall, Mrs. Brown, Harold and Mary; spray, John M. Johnston, Will Fleming, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Webster. Mr. and Mrs. Will J. Fleming, Jr.; spray, Mr. and Mrs. R. McKenzie; pillow, Mrs. Bella Wood and Isobel and Mr. and Mrs. Will Hand; basket, F2 Dept. T. Eaton Co.; spray, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Baxter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reid and family. The flowerbearers were Johnny Johnston, Dorothy Berry, Isobel Wood, Muriel McKenzie, Neil Webster, Grant Pearsall, Mary Brown and Marjorie Tims. Friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Johnston, Sr., Mt. Dennis; Miss Marjorie Tims, Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. W. Hand, Toronto; Mrs. Catherine L. McManus, Saskatoon, Sask.; Mr. and Mrs. R. McKenzie. Alliston.
